Evil Geniuses defeat FURIA; to face Liquid in ESL Pro League North America grand final

Evil Geniuses were superior to FURIA in the ESL Pro League North America consolidation final, winning the Brazilian team's map pick, Vertigo, before closing it on their own, Inferno, to secure a rematch against Liquid in the grand final.

Evil Geniuses were once again able to beat FURIA after their ESL Pro League group stage win, this time in a two-map affair in the consolidation final, and they did it with Wilton "⁠zews⁠" Prado coaching the team for the first time since the North American organization signed the Brazilian skipper. This victory will now pit EG in a grand final rematch of the upper bracket final they lost against Liquid, albeit this time it will be in a best-of-five series.

Vertigo started with the Brazilians going down 0-2 on the defending side, but were quick to tie it up 2-2 with back-to-back triples by Andrei "⁠arT⁠" Piovezan and Henrique "⁠HEN1⁠" Teles. They then went on to take a comfortable lead 5-2 lead before Evil Geniuses could bring it back to within one by exploiting the B site. Down 6-7, Yuri "⁠yuurih⁠" Santos was able to kill the last two Terrorists in an aferplant situation to tilt the balance in FURIA’s favor before the half, 8-7.

Evil Geniuses found the second pistol round with a sturdy A defense to tie it back up, 8-8. The North American squad then went up 10-8 before winning the first gun round to start gaining some distance on the scoreboard. FURIA called a timeout to no avail two rounds later, and quickly found themselves on the losing end of a 10-16 scoreline ahead of Inferno.

EG will face Liquid in the ESL Pro League North America final

Evil Geniuses made it three out of three on the attacking side of Inferno with a late B play. Up 3-0, Peter "⁠stanislaw⁠" Jarguz was able to win a 1vs2 afterplant clutch against Kaike "⁠KSCERATO⁠" Cerato and HEN1 to keep Evil Geniuses ahead. EG quickly set the pace and were always a step ahead of the defenders, going on to give up only three rounds in a back-and-forth end of the first half of the map.

FURIA were finally able to win a pistol round on their fourth attempt to keep the map alive before going on to win five rounds in a row, including a heroic afterplant play by HEN1 who took down three players in a 1vs4 afterplant securing enough time for the bomb to explode.

EG then went on to hit match point, but FURIA kept the pressure up when down 8-15 to keep the game alive with HEN1 and KSCERATO doing the heavy lifting with ADRs in the mid 90s. It wasn't until the very last round that Evil Geniuses were able to close out the series, 16-14, stopping the Ts just one round short of overtime after an admirable six-round comeback attempt.
